Intercultural Training - Cross Culture Communication

Spanish market

Objectives
Many executives and employees travel to Spain without a clear idea of the Spanish business culture. Stereotypes and a lack of information about the socio-economic background make it more difficult to integrate into the Spanish business culture and can cause stress and low work motivation. This seminar is a practical way to get to know Spanish business culture and provides you with an insight into new business environments.
The seminars can be held in English, Spanish or German.

Content

  • Spanish culture and its influence on motivation, approach and communication in the workplace, when planning schedules, in meetings and work procedures
  • Decision-making in Spanish companies
  • Information flow
  • Hierarchies and the concept of responsibility
  • The public and private sectors

Target group

  • Foreign employees and executives who wish to prepare for their stay in Spain
  • Their families and/or partners
  • Foreign employees and executives working on Spanish projects
  • Foreign companies and organisations planning joint ventures with Spanish companies and organisations
  • Foreign employees and executives who frequently travel to Spain

Duration
We recommend a two-day seminar for foreign executives, employees and their families.
Intercultural seminars can be organised in combination with your language course.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, "Spain is an extremely dynamic country and has traditionally achieved very high economic growth rates, over and above the average for other industrialized countries".

Nevertheless, it must be realised that Spanish business culture is different from those of other Northern European countries. By way of example, business relations are mostly developed through mutual trust. There is a classic dilemma between function-oriented and person-oriented business approaches, which can have far-reaching consequences.
The main cultural differences between Spain and UK:
· Spanish culture is person-oriented. These relations prevail over functional ones.
· It has more hierarchies and centralised structures than the UK; as a consequence of higher power distance.
· There is a higher degree of diffuse or less specific relationships.

Centro Humboldt's cross cultural seminar "Fit for Spain" illustrates these key differences and helps you deal with them, preparing you for the Spanish business world.
