The countries of Latin America are currently recording high economic growth, with stable political structures and a high investment potential in all sectors.
Latin America is not only attractive as a market for raw materials but as a market
in itself, with a total population of over 500 million, as well as for locating production.
In part, Latin American cultures are quite divergent in terms of their behaviour patterns, so that appropriate cross cultural know-how is essential. In general, Latin American cultures have completely different value and communication systems compared with the British culture, for example. There is therefore a clash of expectations and business attitudes, with severe consequences: The cancellation of promising contacts, a loss of confidence and consequently financial losses.
The most significant cultural differences between Latin American cultures and the British culture:
· They are polychronic cultures, i.e. with a fundamentally different concept of time to Britain
· They are highly oriented towards relations in contrast to the functionally-oriented British
· They are "High Context" cultures and therefore include context in direct communication
Centro Humboldt's cross cultural seminar "Negotiating successfully in Latin America" illustrates the key factors of the different Latin American cultures. We prepare you for the world of business in Latin America, increasing your self confidence and honing your cross cultural skills.
